Hi friend,

Are you team back to school, or team prolong Summer?

While our kids are now grown and starting their adult lives, we can’t help but reminisce about the days leading up to the start of school. As Kathy and I looked back on our memories of this time, we were reminded of how Kathy would always lament the end of Summer while I looked forward to “getting back to normal.”

As students in both Fairfax and Loudoun head back to school, I’ll bet many of you are also struggling with the thought of Summer coming to a close.

Of course, I loved the vacations, trips to the museums, and the few occasions when the kids were off with the grandparents for a week or more, but over time, every day being different while having to work became a drain on me.

On the other hand, Kathy embraced every day as a new adventure—an opportunity to spend more time with the kids, knowing they would be grown and flown one day.

Ultimately, we recognized that this difference in how we see things brings us into balance. More than that, this balancing effect made us even better together. It’s an approach we live by even in our real estate practice today.

The Most Adorable Cardboard Boat

If we didn’t see you at the Cardboard Boat Regatta last week, here’s a glimpse of what you missed. Kathy and the team went all out and built what some called the most adorable boat in the bunch—perhaps not the speediest boat, but certainly a stable one. But come on, how adorable is it?

Winner-Winner Chicken Dinner

We hosted a tent/booth at the Cardboard Boat Regatta and held a raffle for some cool prizes. Kathy announced the four winners in this Reel, but don’t watch if you get FOMO easily…lol.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

American Rust on Amazon Prime

If you liked Mare of Eastown, you would probably like American Rust (though it’s not as good). It’s a detective mystery set in a small rust-belt town outside of Pittsburgh with some compelling and complicated characters. Kathy really liked the first season, but she stopped watching the second season. I still think it is worth watching.
